Security Stop-Press : Anthropic Spent US$2.75m Protecting Its Chief Executive

AI company Anthropic spent US$2.75 million protecting chief executive Dario Amodei in 2025, more than four times his US$654,167 salary.

In its October IPO filing, the company said growing public attention to AI had increased security risks, adding that “we have experienced threats to employee safety”.

After independent specialists assessed the risks to Amodei and his sister Daniela, Anthropic’s president, the board concluded that a security incident could endanger them and disrupt the business.

Protection extended beyond the workplace to home security and travel. Anthropic spent a further US$1.29 million on Daniela’s protection, home security and transport.

Businesses with staff in the public eye should make it easy to report threats and name someone to assess them promptly. Where a threat is credible, that review should cover staff safety at work, at home and while travelling.
